The Patchwork Kitchen Garden: The Second Season
Welcome everyone to the second season of The Patchwork Kitchen Garden!
Week One: Let’s get started
Starting from nothing is always a great challenge but that’s exactly what I do each and every gardening season. From simple seeds, I sow the outline of what will be my main source of produce during the summer months. Tomatoes , cucumbers and zucchini are only a few examples of what my garden will be producing in the coming summer months. But don’t despair we already started some seeds outside as well for some spring growth like our hearty lettuces and our deliciously sweet sugar snap peas. I know it’s hard to tell that anything is even happening but trust me, below the surface great things are stirring. Every week we will hopefully see the garden take its shape with all the little sprouts that will eventually emerge. However, until then we will have to patiently wait and prepare for their arrival.
Even though we are waiting for out precious seeds and seedlings, we do have some plants that survived the Pennsylvania winter and are thriving without us having to do anything. My parsley is literally triple the size it was last season. As well as having a sprawling strawberry and peppermint plant. It’s amazing what a little rest can do and I really need to look to my plants as the shining example.
Now, let’s get our trusty trowel and garden gloves, it's time to garden!
Down below are some pictures of the garden, give it a peek and watch it grow.
